In this 2nd edition we have re-written this book in easy-to-understand English, with lots of visual examples and diagrams. In fact we re-wrote the exposure section to be easier to understand, as well as added more exposure charts and graphics.
If you are just getting started with photography, then you’ll love this popular photography eBook. If you are relatively new to photography, then this book will help you immensely. It can be incredibly challenging to figure out all the functions on your camera and how they affect your pictures. What are f-stops? What are shutter speeds? How can I use lighting to make my shots look more stunning?
I answer these types of questions in Essential Photography Skills.
The best part are the colorful illustrations that will make learning your camera a breeze.
I believe that this is the best beginner photography eBook out there and I am confident that after reading this eBook you will become a better photographer. I also back this book with a 100% money back guarantee.

Here are a few examples of pages from the book.
Here is what some people have to say about this book:
Thanks to your book, I finally understood the composition & rule of 3! I guess I didn’t really understand composition from the other books that I have (they were wordy). Yours is the best & clearest explanation of composition that I came across. It already made a difference in my photos! The rest of the book are awesome! I’ll probably come up with some more constructive feedback in the future. Thanks again!!!! – Lawrence Trutter
I had a quick skim through it so far, and I think it’s a great basic book. The layout is great and it is bright and easy to read. I like it! – Steve Boyko
Being a VERY amateur photographer, I appreciate this eBook. It is easy to follow and makes sense to those of us who have never taken a photography class. Your explanation of F-stops is great & I love the Composition & Inspiration section. Thank you

Hi Brent Mail, I’ve not had chance to read the book thru yet, but what I’ve got there so far I’ve found helpful and very informative. Thanks for the book! I have many photo books, but what I like the most about it is how simple the author explains multiple topics making it a quick and great resource for teaching photography to anybody starting up. I'm currently teaching my son about photography and certainly it's making it easier. Thanks again!
A very nicely laid out and logical presentation 🙂
Hi there. Yourr free book was shared on a photography forum, Australian Photoholics. It’s a great forum with some wonderful, welcoming, humorous and helpful members. I have been doing Project 365 and now 366 ie a photo a day. I still have loads to learn and after flicking through the ebook on my tablet I found it easy to understand and images helpful. Thankyou for taking the time to educate us and thanx to Karla your helper for knowing it needs to be in the most basic understanding. Some of us need less mumbo jumbo photography speak in order to learn. Thank you again. Enjoy your trip back to Africa. Cheers Anna.
Liked it very much. Layout is inspired and serves the reader. Only thing I would further is real examples of finding a subject, the decision process and the execution – successes and failures.
Your book lead me to the better understanding about the basic and tips of photography. Although english not my first language, but your writing not difficult to understand. Thanks for sharing this e-books.
Thanks Brent Mail, it is just the perfect book I have been looking for…I highly recommend it to every beginner, period….
Hi Brent,
Thanks for the ebook – which I thought was very clear and well written. Wish I'd had it a year ago!
I like the way the various topics are explained an summarised which makes it easy for a begginer to understand.
There are a few typos in there (double spaces and spelling) which I could try and find again for you if you like!
Thanks again Brent.
The book is very easy to read and understand photography! Thanks for sharing and looking forward to the next one 🙂
Hello,
the best book about (digital) photography for me is "Mistrovství práce s DSLR" by Roman Pihan, which unfortunately for most of you is available only in czech language :-), but this eBook is up there too, very high quality, informative, easy to understand, recommended. Thanks! 🙂
I know this will help and teach me alot
Brent, Thanks so much for the free book! I put myself in the 'beginner' level of photographers as I have relied on the point-and-shoot cameras all my life. My wife has our first DSLR and I wanted to break free of the Auto modes and into the creativity. You're book is great for explaining and showing examples of what is changing for the settings I am adjusting. Well delivered and great content.
great tips. many thanks.
Your book has lots of tips to understand the camera. Now I can take better pictures than I used to. Thanks!
Had a quick look through your eBook,I like what I see.
Will have more study time later in the week or week end.
Many Thanks.
Pat

Very informative! It helps me a lot. Arigato gozaimasu!
Amazing ebook
Dear Brent,
Congratulations and thanks for your book. I was looking for a book with nice pictures showing the photography basics over them. I think that your book will be very helpful to many people to understand these ideas.
One idea: have you thought in a version for the iPad? I know that PDF, and specially the landscape orientation of the book, is very suitable for the tablets, but I think that a book in the appstore will be very convenient for your book.
best ever explanation i've read… thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for the book. It looks exactly what I need to help with my photography!
Thanks for your free ebook, it is going to help me a lot, i am about to purchase my first SLR camera soon so your book is going to be a great help. I will hopefully be going on to our Welsh mountains to take some stunning pictures of a most stunning place. Thank you again and keep up the good work.
I love it!!!! The way you have laid it out is easy to read and refer back once experimenting. I am a total beginner and have just invested in a Olympus PEN EP-3. I am hoping to gain some good understanding and accelerated learning through your book. Thanks Brent!!!!!
I have always studied photographic arts. Starting with an old army camera I got from my father in highschool to a Pentax K1000 in college, and now digital and film. I look foward too reading your new book.
Sincerey, Rev. S R Powell
Thank you, Brent. This book is a perfect intro to give to a new staff person for a concise intro to the mystery of photography. Many seasoned pros do not understand these basic concepts and they are hard to explain but you have done a great job that anyone will benefit from. Best advice for an newbe is to set the camera on manual as you suggest and see the relationship with the two controls and their interaction.
Thank you for generously sharing this and I look forward to your future offers.
Stan
I downloaded your book and posted it, with pleasure, to G+ today. I think it's a very comprehensive book for the beginning photographer; providing a wealth of information.
Thanks so much +Brent Mail for publishing an easy to read and informative e-book on photography! As photographers, it's always nice to hear about others tips to make the picture come together!

For amateur like me, this book provides simple way to understand the concept of photogtaphy. I like especially the composition rules … I think this is the most important aspect is every good photography since setting can be automated nowadays …
Brent, thank you for sharing.
Love the book so far, I am just starting out in photography
And some of the tips are really helpful, keep up the good work.
Great book. Puts things in terms I can understand. Brilliant
Thank you for the ebook. I enjoyed it & I'm already taking better pictures. Thanks again!!!
Hi Brent,
I didn't get back to you straight away as I hadn't had much of a chance to get started on the book, however I have read a few chapters and I have to say I really enjoy how you have explained the way the 3 components of a camera work, I think especially for the apeture, that would have to be the most confusing part of the terminology for beginners, a bigger F number means a smaller hole!?!!???
I'm actually quite OK with that these days, however SHOWING the relationship and how much the diaphrams move between stops is just fantastic.
Overall it's a good read, I did pick up a couple of typos, you know where it looks like it should be your and it's you. I meant to take note of the location of these so you can check and correct as needed.
I found your writting style great and I watched one of your videoes and can see your enthusiasm for photography. I think overall it's a great mix to teach people that it is about knowing how your camera works and that photography is about what you enjoy.
Thanks for being so generous as to offer this book for free. I'm very glad I was one of those who were able to take you up on your offer. I'll try to finish off the book this week, and I intend to keep it as a handy reference when the memory starts to dull. 🙂
Thanks for the ebook. I’m interested in portraiture w/ cell phone.
+Brent Mail, thank you so much for this really informative and engaging eBook. I really enjoyed your coverage of the basics…and thank you for explaining histograms! I needed that. Cheers and thanks again. Really nice work.
Waiting for more than hour and still no confirmation e-mail 🙁 Did it happen to anybody else? What should i do? (Shared twice, checked low priority mail and Spam folder many times…)
Should have got it by now, send me a private message. Brent

thx!!
Brent, very nicely done. It has always been difficult to understand how all the camera settings work together in photograhy. Your book explains this in a way that’s easy to understand. Thanks!
Think it's a great, easy to understand book for beginners. Downloaded it for my husband who has only recently decided to join me in photography because I'm sure he only half listens to me

Keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing more of your awesome photos and products. Best wishes.
I've been doin photography for sometime now and this book was a big reminder on some things I've forgotten. It also answers a lot of questions like how do you take a long exposure shot and not let it look fantastic. I really do think you've done a fantastic job at putting a lot of beginner information in to one book. I'm going to try and propose this book to my universities photography 1 classes primary textbook!
Keep up the great work!
Sorry for some grammatical errors I typed this off my phone
Lovely read, insightful , easy and fun to breeze thorugh with enough to grab your attention and get you thinking more technically about your photography.
Hi Brent!
Thanks for providing this ebook I grabbed it for my wife, who's just getting into photography, and you explain the technical things, as well as composition very well. It's nice to have all the info in one place and clearly put!
Regards from Africa
Deon
I was curious about this ebook and after looking at it find it is polished and covers all the basics to be well grounded in how light & camera work together. I attempted to do this same sort of thing for a friend years ago but fell short of finishing it or even producing anything that is as easy as this to read and understand. Great Job!
Just flipped through your book and it looks extremely thorough. It's been a long time since I seriously thought about photography and I'm hoping digging into your advice will help to inspire me to take better photos. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us newbies. I am sure my photos will improve dramatically due to your generosity.
This book looks great… Thanks for sharing.
Your tips are great, I am sharing this with my Real Estate company, they might just take some better real estate photos.
Glad you enjoyed it Kitty. Good luck with the real esate photos, remember you need a very wide angle lens and a good flash. Cheers, Brent
