Choosing a Tripod that’s right for you

Another great free photography tip:

What to look for when choosing a tripod.

Tripods

In this video I explore the different parts that make up a tripod and also show you different types of tripods, as well as tripod heads I use when I photograph.

I answer the following questions in this free photography video:

What are tripods used for?

What to look for in a tripod

How to choose the right tripod for your camera

What about the weight of the tripod?

What is a tripod head and what do they do?

What are quick-release plates?

Check out this video and please leave some feedback below.

Thanks & have a great day.

I'm new to photography but old enough (don't ask) to think I knew this stuff – wrong!  First two videos were quite helpful, keep up the good work.

Have you ever lost a quick-release plate? I had a tripod and lost the plate. I've not been able to find any replacement plates anywhere. Any recommendations where we can purchase these?

    • brentmail July 31, 2012 at 10:43 am #

Hi Daniel, ebay or amazon are good places to look for replacement quick-release plates. Brent

    Hi Brent,
I enjoyed both the Videos you shared. We are small group of photographers ranging from beginners to advanced professionals. We meet every Wednesday and I have shared these Videos with the group. Beginners enjoyed because they learnt from it and advanced photographers because it was refreshing and revision of their techniqe and knowledge.
    Thanks and regards, Satvinder.

This helps clarify some questions I had about the use of a monopod. Also, I'm glad that the tripod that I had purchased some 15 years ago has the quick-release attachment. Your tutorial is two-fold (for me): it is refreshing my memory of the things I learnt, and bringing me up-to-date on more recent developments in photography tools and techniques. Thank you!

I use a DSLR with at time big lenses for wildlife photography  a tripod is a buit cumbersome to use on those occasion and I have a monopod. Would you think it ok to use a ballhead opn the monopod for ease of movement?

    • brentmail January 15, 2013 at 7:55 pm #

Na, I dont think the monopod can handle it. Just screw the monopod into the lens – not the camera, and you should be OK. Brent
