Today’s episode I interviewed James Brandon. He made a full time living out of teaching photography either thru his workshops or thru his online courses. He specializes in travel and landscapes photography. He comes from a background of running a photography business. He used to shoots weddings and portraits and commercial photography.
In this episode, we looked at how to get tons of traffic by guest writing for the big photography websites. James also reveals his 8 step formula for what works for him in the past and how you can do it to get tons of traffic to your website.

Why is it important to make a living in photography education?

How to make the transition from running a photography business to teaching:
- Getting emails from photographers fairly often
- You can’t just jump into it if you don’t have proper audience
- Decided to do something different
- Do reviews on certain photography products
- Ended up writing an eBook
- Social media is the bottom
How to get a following an audience or traffic:
- Became a guest writer for another website
- Written a really good content
- Got a following and sign up for emailing list
- Done reviews for photography product or courses
- Met some influential people in photography industry
- Got a newsletter
Things you can do that can give you a big impact on traffic:
- Write for a digital photography school
- Reach out and have a solid and concrete plan
- Aim as big as you can
- Go out of your comfort zone
- You don’t have to be a total writing expert
Step by step system on doing a guest post for someone:
- Identify which website you want to guest post
- The target audience
- Lines up two what you’re known for
- Find the gatekeeper
- These people want only one thing – content
- Make it as easy as possible
- Have a plan
- Provide a complete article or a flawless content
- Make sure it’s excellent
- Make sure it’s free of typos
- Make it easy for them
- Find a creative zone
- Open laptop
- Turn off all distractions
- Put phone on airplane mode or silent mode
- Turn off Wi-Fi/internet
- Pull up a notepad/document
- Create your article
- Send the article to the editor
- Write it in an HTML format
- Copy the HTML into a text document
- It gives them the format they need
- Wait for response a day or two
- Hopefully get a link back to your website
How to make initial contact to the target:
- Just go into their website
- 5-10 minutes looking into the site
- Find potential contributors
- Find a contact page and send an email
- The best way would be the managing editor
- Find somebody who can vouch for you
- Sell yourself to them
- Provide a flawless content
Important things to have in your website for traffic:
- Link to your site
- About the author section
- In the article itself
- A page in your site that has the article
- Point the article to further reading
- Deeper understanding of the article in your site
